Professional biography

Built in service. Grounded in what comes after.

Dr. John A. Davis III, PhD, LMHC, is a retired Firefighter Captain/Paramedic, licensed mental health counselor, author, and speaker whose work lives at the intersection of service, leadership, resilience, and what happens after the emergency ends.

Dr. John A. Davis III

For years, Dr. Davis ran toward other people’s worst days: in the fire service, emergency medicine, critical incidents, and disaster response. He learned the operational side of pressure, where decisions must be made quickly, teams depend on one another, and “we’ll figure it out later” is not a strategy. He also learned that later eventually arrives.

That realization shaped his work in behavioral health. Today, Dr. Davis brings a rare combination of front-line experience, clinical perspective, and plainspoken leadership to conversations about trauma, recovery, accountability, family, and the human cost of carrying responsibility for others.

His writing includes The Fire That Followed Me Home, a memoir of service, survival, and the calls that stay; The Fireline Protocol; and Mayday Protocol, the second novel in the Fireline Protocol series. Across nonfiction and fiction, he writes about people under pressure, the consequences that follow them home, and the possibility of finding a way forward.

Dr. Davis’s professional path includes broad technical and leadership training across fire-rescue operations, paramedicine, disaster medical response, crisis intervention, behavioral health, and organizational leadership. He has served communities in moments when preparation meets reality—and when strong coffee, a clear head, and a dependable crew all matter.

He is also the creator of the Reconnect Systems Model™, a practical framework for understanding lasting change through self-regulation, accountability and empathy, healthy connection, and purposeful community.

Dr. John A. Davis helps people who carry responsibility for others find a way forward when the work follows them home.
